Anna Wessely, PhD, art historian and sociologist. Research, teaching and publications on
intellectual history, social theory, sociology of culture, and 18 th -century European art. Staff
member at the Institute of Sociology of Eötvös Loránd University from 1978 through 2016,
visiting professor at several other Hungarian and European universities, and editor of several
Hungarian journals in the social sciences. President of the Hungarian Sociological
Association 2015-2021 and editor-in-chief of the journal Budapest Review of Books (BUKSZ)
since 2002.
